Исполнитель: The Ken Peplowski Quintet Название альбома: Mr. Gentle and Mr. Cool Год выпуска: 1990, Concord Jazz Формат файлов: Mp3, 320 Размер архива: 149 Mb Скачать с: rusfolder In the late '80s, Ken Peplowski (30 at the time of this Concord CD) became one of the brightest stars in mainstream swing. He switches between clarinet, tenor and alto on this set, sounding best on the former, where he is a logical extension of Benny Goodman (utilizing some fluid Buddy DeFranco-like bop ideas). On "Body and Soul," Peplowski and pianist Hank Jones do a close impression of B.G. and Teddy Wilson, and Ken really cooks on an uptempo "You Do Something to Me." In contrast, Peplowski's tone on alto (which he otherwise rarely plays) is a bit dull, particularly on the bossa-nova "Follow Your Heart," but he is much stronger on tenor; his encounters with guest Scott Hamilton on two-tenor versions of "Makin' Whoopee" and an uptempo "When Day Is Done" are high points. Joined by a great rhythm section (comprised of Hank Jones, guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, bassist Frank Tate and drummer Alan Dawson), Peplowski is in excellent form throughout the enjoyable set.
