Since there in 2011, he has been involved in a wide range of musical projects, performing and recording with some of the leading voices on today’s jazz scene. Chris also leads his own trio and quartet to lend a voice to his own compositions. An avid educator as well as performer, Chris is currently a teaching artist with the New York Jazz Symposium founded by drummer Carl Allen, with whom he has been able to give back to students at regular jazz intensives in Melbourne, Australia and San Jose, CA. He is also a teaching artist with the Institute for Creative Music, an organization specializing in presenting clinics and residencies on jazz and improvised music across the US. Ziemba also holds a teaching position at York College of the City University of New York. Hailing from Buffalo, NY Chris received his Bachelor’s Degrees in Jazz Performance and Music Education as well as his Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance, from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He is a recent graduate of the Juilliard School, where he completed an Artist Diploma in Jazz Studies.
But enough of his impressive credentials. This is about music making and about Manhattan - the cradle of metropolitan culture. Seven million souls bring every culture and tradition to it, fusing their stories, their song. It is its bustling boroughs. It is its pastoral parks and rivers. Jazz pianist Chris Ziemba channels that power, with all of its wonderful contradictions, in his edgy debut release, Manhattan Lullaby (Outside in Music), another milestone in the Millennial Jazz movement’s 21st century take on their Manhattan.
