This obscure LP features the talented but somewhat forgotten clarinetist Tony Scott (whose cool approach contrasted with Buddy DeFranco's more hyper style) doubling on baritone. In addition to trumpeter Clark Terry and baritonist Sahib Shihab, Scott featured some young talent he was greatly impressed with: trombonist Jimmy Knepper, pianist Bill Evans, bassist Henry Grimes (who alternates with veteran Milt Hinton) and drummer Paul Motian. Most of the songs (including Scott's "Blues For 3 Horns") are either standards or based on familiar chord changes, but Bill Evans' "Five" was introduced during the date. This worthy album will be a difficult one to locate.
