He received most recognition for his fusion project; The Tony Williams Lifetime band with John McLaughlin. He also was part of The Miles Davis Quintet in the 60's and did extensive touring with Herbie Hancock's V.S.O.P band as well. He died of a heart attack after a gall bladder surgery in 1997, 51 years old.
