The original self titled two disc CD/DVD package Ninety Miles recording was released to wide spread critical acclaim and Live At Cubadisco simply takes a good thing and makes it better. In the world of the more contemporary/Latin influence there simply may be no better trio working today both in pushing the music forward but themselves as artists. This special live recording took place May 18 2010 during one of the biggest music festivals in Cuba. Currently available as a special U.S. digital release the actual physical release will not take place till 2013. Some of Cuba's best and brightest talent joined in on this epic performance including pianist Harold Lopez-Nussa and Rember Duharte each leading their own quartets. Stefon Harris who happens to be a four time Grammy nominated vibist/percussionist contributes two stellar tracks including "This Too Shall Pass" and "Brown Belle Blues," which was composed especially for this project. Grammy nominated David Sanchez brings plenty of Latin flavor with saxophone in hand. Sanchez is arguably one of the few Latin saxophonists with a signature sound that fuses Afro-Cuban Rhythm and bebop. Sanchez submits two tunes as well, "City Sunrise" and "The Forgotten Ones" while one celebrates the cultural heritage of the music of Cameroon the other is a tale of the forgotten people of the post-Katrina disaster. Perhaps the most musically diverse and adventurous performer is trumpet player Chritian Scott whose chameleon like ability to transcend the self imposed limitations of genre is at times staggering in scope. Scott offers up "Paradise Found" which was ironically written by his uncle the great Donald Harrison. The two Cuban pianists each contribute a track for a high octane Latin flow of percussive power. Ninety Miles Live At Cubadisco exudes excitement, vitality and a creative spirit rarely heard. A multi-cultural eclectic mix of what could easily garner more than one Grammy nod. After receiving seven Latin Grammy nominations, Concord Music and Concord Picante can easily be considered the home of Latin jazz. ~ criticaljazz.com
