Between Lou Reed and Jack Kerouac, there is perhaps little more in common than that of having definitively marked a generation and inspired many of the following.
Antoine Bernollin is one of those whom the poet of the beat generation embarked for a long time on his way. This album, recorded in public in Orleans last year, is his travelogue, in music, in the world of Jack.
And what a trip! Alternately high-flying, dreamy or tender, the Jack, drawn by the impeccable musicians of the quartet over the tracks, exudes a spell of charm that the tidbits of her voice, slipped here and there, do not belie.
A talent for compositions, signed by Bernollin for the most part, the melodies of this "Ridin 'with Jack" are appropriated with astonishing ease, as the stories they suggest seem familiar. Without that we have any sense of déjà vu.
And it will not be an insult to the great musical cohesion of the album, to the harmony of the sound and rhythmic pastas subtly worked, that also to underline the amazing performance of David Sevestre, crossing all the registers of the saxophone, the free the most imperative to the most crooked brass melody, with the same happiness.
At the end of this album, this bit of road with Jack, Bernollin version, there remains the feeling that all the same, the light prevails over the shadow. And at the beginning of autumn, we want to say that it's so much better!
