"Dionisiaco" is the new solo recording project by pianist and composer Moses Andrich .
“Reason is always and only a regulating energy, never creative in itself; every effectively productive process presupposes, in reality, a madness.” Stefan Zweig, Life of Erasmus "The Apollonian, the Dionysian: the two faces of artistic creation. The first, broad forehead, noble features, grandly calm, shared and standard, weighs and balances, admits or excludes, loyal to the dictates of the golden measure. The second – volcanic, drunk with passions, the fever of madness in his gaze – generates, extracts, connects not according to logic but by sensation, knocks down and raises; never satisfied with himself, he does not find peace: he wants and does not want, always pressing forward, regardless of the limits, under the sting of an inexhaustible desire. The Apollonian is stability, the Dionysian becoming. The antithesis is the daughter of Friedrich Nietzsche, who saw in the two divine spirits the essential impulses underlying Greek culture and art, of which tragedy was the maximum expression. The first part of the album, inspired by it, opens with a Parodos – in the stage action, the appearance of the Chorus – and closes with the Exodos, the final section of the drama, ending with the exit of the choruses from the 'orchestra. It is a reflection on the creative process and its two complementary souls, the rational and the irrational. The latter is certainly the most fascinating; perhaps, the most decisive, because madness makes you hungry, pushes you towards the unknown, looks into the abyss and throws you into it without looking back. Intermezzo was born during the recording session of the album: a brief exploration of the key of E flat major, prelude to Everyman, a piece inspired by the homonymous novel by Philip Roth, which narrates the encounter of a man with his own mortal condition. In Fractals, a sort of perpetuum mobile, an almost uninterrupted flow of notes wants to reproduce that kaleidoscopic phenomenon of internal homothety also present in nature: the repetition on different scales of the same shapes, fractals, in fact. Menuet's theme, like the Apollonian and Dionysian metrics, is taken from a piece – Zero g – published in my first piano solo album. Sometimes, rather than inventing from scratch, I prefer to work on already existing material, be it melodic or rhythmic fragments, declining it in different musical contexts and developing its still unexpressed potential. This is an artisanal work which, perhaps, has more of the industrious Apollonian wisdom than of the Dionysian fury.” Moses Andrich Born in Belluno in 1989, Moses Andrich began playing the piano at the age of six under the guidance of Katia Bellus at the G. Rossini Academy. After graduating from classical high school he moved to Milan where he studied at the G. Verdi Conservatory with Attilio Martignoni; in the meantime he completed his studies at the Catholic University of the Lombard capital, graduating in Literature with a thesis on Catholic journalism during the First World War, and later in Modern Philology. The passion for the instrument then takes him to Trieste (G. Tartini Conservatory) where, in the class of M° Massimo Gon, he obtains his diploma in piano with full marks and honours; he is currently completing the two-year jazz course in the same institution. Several specialization courses supported with pianists and teachers of European Conservatories, including Peep Lassman, Wolfgang Watzinger, Christine Karajeva, Johannes Kropt fitsch, Alberto Miodini, Enrico Bronzi, Ivan Rabaglia, Nick Bartsch; in the chamber music field he attended, together with his colleagues from the Aristotrio, the lessons held by the Parma Trio at the International Chamber Music Academy in Duino. As an accompanist he specialized in the lieder music of R. Schumann and J. Brahms, as well as in the works of P. I. Tchaikovsky, B. Britten and O. Respighi. Passionate about classical music but also jazz, he has given several concerts both as a soloist (Sala Darsena in Lignano, Duino United World College, Miela Theater, Conservatory, Palazzo Gopcevich in Trieste, Conservatory and Italian Embassy in Prague, Unisono Center in Feltre, Municipality of Treviso) and in ensembles of various kinds, ranging from the classical-romantic piano repertoire to the standards of the great improvisational tradition of the twentieth century; in 2014 the Berklee College of Music in Boston selected him to participate in the clinics held every year in Perugia as part of Umbria Jazz, where he studied with Mark Shilansky and Matthew Nicholl. Currently he teaches literary subjects at the high school and dedicates himself to concert activity.
