An appealing singer with a strong voice that is always perfectly under control, Michele Anastasio digs into 14 familiar standards on this fine CD. She mostly sticks to the melodies and the words, so she does not really try to improvise, but she has the ability to make the veteran songs sound fresh and vital. Anastasio is joined by a supportive quartet that includes pianist/arranger Alan Broadbent (who unfortunately is listed as playing acoustic guitar). She deserves to be better known, for Michele Anastasio's voice puts her way ahead of most singers.
