Исполнитель: Louis ArmstrongНазвание альбома: Louis In New York Год выпуска: 1990 Формат файлов: mp3, 192 kbps Размер архива: 83.90 mb Скачать с: rusfolder.com A fascinating collection of nineteen OKeh 78s, unissued masters, and alternate takes from sessions held in New York City between March and November of 1929, VOLUME V: LOUIS IN NEW YORK is primarily for the serious Satchmo-file. That said, the music here, while perhaps not as dynamic as the classic Hot Fives and Hot Sevens recordings of preceding years, is full of innovation, fire and flat-out superb Armstrong performances. Tracks one and two are of particular historical interest in that, although recorded on the same day, they feature two completely different bands and approaches. The second song, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," is one of Armstrong's earliest recorded vocal performances of a current popular song and basically represents his transformation, over the course of three and half minutes, into a fully formed "popular" entertainer. Also interesting is the contrast between the ultra-syrupy vocals of Seger Ellis on tracks intended for white audiences and later recordings featuring the sassy Victoria Spivey. In addition, the disc includes several songs in both instrumental and vocal versions, which serve to clearly illustrate how Armstrong's vocals and personality revolutionized both jazz and pop culture.
New York Times (Publisher) (12/2/90) - "...The fifth chronological collection of Armstrong's records in the 1920's and early 30's includes his first attempt to expand from blues and black-oriented vaudeville songs to pop."
