Исполнитель: Lee Wiley Название альбома: Sings the Songs of George & Ira Gershwin & Cole Porter Год выпуска: 1989 Формат файлов: Mp3, 320 Размер архива: 109 Mb Скачать с: ifolder, depositfiles Lee Wiley first recorded this Gershwin collection in 1939 for the small Liberty label, backed by traditionalist swing figures like Jess Stacy, Max Kaminsky, Fats Waller and other pals; aside from its obvious musical value, this session is significant since it represented the very first appearance of the "composer songbook."
As for the singer, this is the great (and under-recorded) Lee Wiley at her very best. She was always something of an underground artist, an insider musician's favorite, at a time when popular singers were supposed to have public and prolific recording careers. Wiley just didn't play the game that way--the very fact she pioneered the previously unheard-of concept of devoting a single album to one songwriter says it all. She believed in the music and the musicians behind it. She is also one of the greatest interpreters of lyrics in the history of the art form.
