This release we're sharing now represents Joe making his debut on Capitol Records. It was recorded in NYC on June 19-21, 1962. In his day Bucci created quite a new, dynamic Hammond sound which was eventually noticed by the great Basie. He was first impressed when he heard the Massachusetts-born organist at a 1961 jazz concert that featured Bucci along with the Basie band. This led to an engagement in the Count's own New York night club, where the Bucci duo, including drummer Joe Riddick, more than justified Basie's faith by packing in the patrons night after night during a sensational four-week stay. The crowd's response there and later at the celebrated Newport Jazz Festival convinced the Count that he was far from alone in his estimation of Bucci's talent. ©
