Исполнитель: Jessica Williams- Leroy Vinnegar Trio Название альбома: Encounters II Год выпуска: 1998 Формат файлов: Mp3, 320 Размер архива: 169 Mb Скачать с: rusfolder Jessica Williams is joined by veteran bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Mel Brown for this live engagement at the Portland nightclub Atwater's. Although there a quite a few well-known standards present, all are explored with a freshness not often heard in a live setting. Her series of playful quotes incorporated into a driving interpretation of "Mack the Knife" is quite humorous. While she describes a debt to Erroll Garner in her bouncing take of "It's the Talk of the Town," the introduction also partially acknowledges the influence of Thelonious Monk. Less-frequently heard songs explored on this date include Count Basie's lightly swinging blues "The 'M' Squad," Rashaan Roland Kirk's lovely ballad "Haunted Melody," and the shimmering "Delilah." Williams' "Empathy" is a moody ballad that best displays the amazing chemistry between the musicians. The audience could have been a little more quiet during a live session of this caliber, but often people don't realize when they are witnesses to truly historic jazz in the making. Ken Dryden
