The windharp heard on this record was built by Norwegian Sverre Larssen.It is an instrument with strings that are brougth to vibrate by the wind,thereby creating tones and overtones,which,in turn,are enhanced in a resonant body.
Some years ago,Mr.Larssen read about an "Aeolian Harp"(Aeolus:the Greek god of the wind).Searching for more information he found some literature on the practical aspects of construction.Experimenting and using his own intuition,he was able to make an instrument reacting directly to the air stream and creating this sound image of the wind.
The wind was recorded by Jan Eric Kongshaug on the coast of Southern Norway,a place particulary suitable because of the unending gusts of wind coming in from the North Sea.
