Brown (April 2, 1918 – November 24, 1969) was an American tenor saxophonist of the Chicago blues era. He was variously billed as Saxman Brown, J.T. (Big Boy) Brown and Bep Brown.
Rockin' with J.T. collects a number of tracks J.T. Brown recorded during the late '40s and early '50s. Unfortunately, many of these songs -- some of which were changed upon the 1984 reissue, so that the collection could feature songs that weren't on Windy City Boogie -- feature Brown only as a sideman, working with the likes of Washboard Sam, Roosevelt Sykes and Booker T. Washington. That said, the cuts with him as a sideman positively smoke, and his jumping saxophone is a good reason why. There are also a handful of songs he cut with his own band that round out this imperfect but quite valuable collection. Thom Owens, AMG
