This duet session with Morgan and pianist George Cables produced some very interesting results. They compliment each other perfectly and weave around each other's playing magically. There's none of that "I'll blow three choruses, then you take three" stuff, but more of an interweaving within each shared chorus. Frank likes to include an old classic on each album, and here it's AFTER YOU'VE GONE; they usually end up being highlights of the album, as is the case here. I TOLD YOU SO is a grab-you-by-the-shirtfront sort of tune, and the two men really get into it. LOVE STORY, a lousy tune that for some reason Frank seems to like (he recorded it again on a later CD), is taken so slow it's almost dead in the water. Other than that misfire, this is an enjoyable CD.
