The concept of Sound-Elements originated in the idea of a continuous piece of music that flows seamlessly between open improvisation and structure, and gives each musician in the band a place to express the specific soundscape of each spiritual-material element: fire, water earth and air. Each element is introduced by a different member of the group with an open improvisation which then leads into the composition dedicated to that element-all these parts are interconnected into one organic piece of music.
Sound-Elements is my debut album as a leader and it is my privilege and honor to have recorded it with Abraham Burton, Eric McPherson and Luis Perdomo. A chance occasion to play with Abraham and Eric at Smalls in 2018 opened for me a musical universe that will continue to nurture me for many years to come.
