Me and You album by Count Basie & His Orchestra was released Jan 30, 2007 on the Pablo label. Digitally remastered by Joe Tarantino (1987, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California). Me and You CD music contains a single disc with 8 songs.
Following the success of Basie's FARMER'S MARKET BARBECUE, the Count decided to record another album similar in conception. The idea on both albums was to include his inimitable big band on one half of an album, and an informal small group (made up of key soloists from the big band) on the other. The result is ME AND YOU (1983), a swinging album that highlights Basie's skill as a bandleader/pianist in the two settings that jazz traditionally offers.
The three small group songs, "She's Funny That Way," "Crip," and "Bridge Work" emphasize a more relaxed, highly improvisatory style of jazz. The five big band numbers, including Basie classics, "Moten Swing" and "Easy Living" emphasize the taut arrangements and dynamic subtleties that have long since become the trademarks of the legendary Basie Orchestra. Specifically, the big band portion of the album features prominently the arranging skill of the late Ernie Wilkins, one of the finest arrangers Basie ever employed
