Storyville Records presents legendary saxophonist Buddy Tate along with Danish quintet White Label on new album »Tate's Delight - Groovin' at the JASS Festival«!
Tate's Delight was recorded at the Holstebro JASS Festival in September 1982. The album is divided into two parts. Tate is heard first with the rhythm section, showing off his beautiful but rarely heard clarinet on great renditions of Duke Ellington's "In A Mellow Tone" and "Mood Indigo." The second part of the album features Jens Søndergaard and Poul Valdemar Pedersen on the last three tracks, recreating the intense spirit of the jam sessions of swing's golden age. Buddy Tate was a prominent swing-era tenor saxophonist who joined Count Basie's orchestra in 1939 after the death of Herschel Evans. He remained with the band for 9 years before moving to New York City where he led a high profile group at Harlem's prestigious Celebrity Club for 21 years.
This session is an excellent example of the musical encounters that have taken place in Denmark over the years. Buddy Tate was one of the many international stars who performed with Danish musicians and thus contributed to the special connection between Danish and American jazz.
