Recorded Live in Tokyo in 1979 this Art Pepper reissue on XRCD24 features George Cables, Tony Dumas and the incredible Billy Higgins on drums. Originally produced in Japan by famed XRCD Producer and Creator Akira Taguchi, this XRCD24 release includes the rare cut "Sometime" which features Pepper on clarinet!
Altoist Art Pepper was in inspired form during this Tokyo concert, which has also been reissued as part of a huge "complete" Galaxy box set. This particular single CD features Pepper (along with pianist George Cables, bassist Tony Dumas, and drummer Billy Higgins) on memorable versions of "True Blues," "Sometime" (during which Pepper switches to clarinet), "Landscape," "Avalon," "Over the Rainbow," "Straight Life," and the CD bonus cut "Mambo de la Pinta." Throughout, Pepper's intensity and go-for-broke style are exhilarating.
