Andrés Boiarsky (born October 9, 1957) is an Argentine alto and tenor saxophonist.

As one of the most versatile and highly trained reeds players of his generation, Andres Boiarsky brings a wealth of experience to his excellence as a sideman and leader in the jazz world. From his home in Buenos Aires to the Royal College of Music to the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and beyond, Andres has followed in the footsteps of the great tenor players with a style worthy to take the place of one of his mentors, James Moody, in the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band.

Beginning his musical life with piano lessons at the age of six, Andres later switched to reed instruments as he became more deeply involved with the strong revivalist jazz scene in Argentina during the mid seventies. With that stylistic jazz idiom, Andres also began playing the clarinet, the tenor, alto and soprano saxophones.

In 1978 he began his studies at the renowned Royal College of Music in London where he received an A.R.C.M. degree. During this time, Andres also formed his own group and recorded his first solo album for Spotlight Records. After completing his studies in England, Andres returned to Argentina for six years during which time he recorded two solo albums for CBS records.

In 1988, with the encouragement of Paquito D'Rivera and Carlos Franzetti, Andres moved to New York where he joined the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, he would later become the band's musical director for over three years.

During 1993 Andres was called to be part of a new version of the United Nation Orchestra, originally lead by Dizzy Gillespie, directed by D'Rivera from 1993 on.

In 1997 after recording the CD "Dizzy's 80th Birthday" alongside Jon Faddis and Cyrus Chestnut among other greats, Andres took his place alongside the world's outstanding musicians that comprise the "Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All Stars". Together the All Stars continue to perform at the most prestigious venues and festivals till this day.

As a sideman, Andres has recorded for renowned musicians including Slide Hampton, Paquito D'Rivera, Jimmy Heath, Nancy Wilson, The United Nation Orchestra, Claudio Roditi, Lionel Hampton and Al Di Meola to name but a few. As a leader, Andres recorded "Into the Light" in 1996 - his first album for a North American label - for Reservoir Records as well as "Crosstalk", recorded in 2013 and released in 2014 by One Trick Dog Records.

In 2004 Andres formed a musical partnership with Japanese pianist Tomoko Ohno. While on tour in Argentina, Andres and Tomoko recorded the CD "Shadows of Spring" for MDR Records, released in 2005. In 2006 they recorded a follow-on CD to "Shadows of Spring" also for MDR Records, released in November 2006.

As an educator, Andres has a deep experience that spans over thirty years of teaching in the US, South America and China, with his clinics being held at prestigious institutions such as the University of Idaho, and the George Mason University in Virginia. His solo performances have taken him as far as Alaska, Singapore, Russia and several South American countries. From 2007 to 2012, Andres lived in Shanghai, China where he quickly became a feature of the local jazz scene.

Returning to New York in January 2012, he rejoined the Dizzy Gillespie All Starts Big band as well as focusing on his career as a soloist.
