Stan Kenton


Стэн Ке́нтон (Stanley Newcomb Kenton)
(15.12.1911 or 19.02.1912 Wichita, Kansas, US - 25.08.1979 Los Angeles, California, US)
американский джазовый пианист, аранжировщик, композитор, руководитель оркестра, один из выдающихся экспериментаторов в современном джазе.

В 1939 году организовал оркестр из 13 музыкантов. Популярности оркестра в немалой степени способствовали его участники - вокалистки Anita O'Day и June Christy, инструменталисты Stan Getz, саксофонист/кларнетист Vido Musso, Kai Winding, Art Pepper, Shelly Manne, а также оригинальные аранжировки Pete Rugolo.

В 1952 году Кентон вернулся к свингу (аранжировщики Bill Holman, Gerry Mulligan, Gene Roland, Johnny Richards) и вновь добился широкого признания. Среди солистов оркестра были Lee Konitz, Zoot Sims, Frank Rosolino, Conte Candoli, Lennie Niehaus, Richie Kamuca.

Кентон был женат 3 раза, второй его супругой была вокалистка Ann Richards.
